It's been an interesting summer so far. Lots of happy riders, scooter loans are being paid off, mystery electrical problems, shipment of new tires about to arrive... A decent summer non-the less!

Working on some new ideas for next year. Developing a "Premium Tour Package" where I shut down my shop for the day, and take you and your party out on an escorted ride led by ME!
Who better to show you the most awesome things via a scooter?

There will be Ruckus packages, and a Metro packages. The packages will include scenic stops, photography (since I am a professional) and the guided cruises.

ZootScoot Boundaries

Had some renters take a couple scoots out over the weekend. Gave them a map the day BEFORE the ride, and when they were here signing up, I went over the map again. Even after stressing how bad it was to go to Glen Haven, and seeing the fine for doing so... they still passed the sign that said, "Trucks use lower gears" and thought that was a "common sense" place to ride.

When they returned, I was told that somehow I had put arrows on the map telling them to go to Glen Haven.
The customer opens up the map, and there are no such arrows. As a matter of fact, there is a penned line going across the road, like a blockade, and that was where I explained to them originally that THAT was as far as you could go on this road.

Now, instead of taking the entire fee of $500 each scooter, I decided to think about things, and get back to them later.

Today, I called the customer, and explained that instead of the $500 each fine that is posted on the website, in the shop, and in the rental agreement that they signed in 3 different places, I would instead ONLY charge them $50 per scooter to cover the wear and tear of each unit.

Going down a 13-18% grade road is no place for a scooter! That's steeper than most roads in the National Park. Yet this customer askes me, "there are no damamges?"

Just like if you drove your car from one end of the state to the other with the emergency brake on... doesn't necessarily mean the brake no longer works, but you can bet your sweet bippy that the brake will now not last as long because.... YOU CAUSED IT WEAR AND TEAR.

The brakes on those scooters will be the first to go... because they were used for a half mile down a 13% grade!
How hard is this to understand?

If you go out of bounds, you WILL pay the fines.

BEWARE THE EFFECTS OF ZOOTSCOOT!

I got this email the other day, and thought it was very important to share with others.

We rented two Honda Metropolitans from you in July 2007. We rode around town for an hour and returned your scoots with no problems. When we got home to PA we noticed a few symptoms we believe we probably picked up at Zoot Scoot. The first symptom was intense itching ( to ride scooters ) and the second was a strange sensation of our pockets burning (probably from the money in them, which later diminished as did our $). Another symptom that followed was obsession ( to buy a scooter) followed by smiling like an idiot for a long time after we bought our first scooters ( we bought two Daelim Delfinos 100 cc 2 strokes ). We rode them for a year until we stopped into a yamaha dealer to pick up a quart of oil that cost us $3008 ( we bought a used KYMCO Grand vista 250 in addition to the $8 quart of oil. Well, you know how it goes I blew my Delfino engine trying to keep up with the KYMCO ( luckily it was fixed for free under warranty). I later in the year test rode a Vespa GT 200 that I bought for $4000 it had 250 miles on it and a nice topcaseon it too. I sold the Delfino to a guy who later totaled it ( hes OK).
Since we don’t remember signing a waiver for releasing you from all the above symptoms we contracted at your business we are holding you responsible for spreading this costly disease. We figure its cost us $ 11,000 in scooters and another $1000 in gear. We are willing to settle for a lesser amount out of court of course. Drop us a line when you can and we'll discuss it......Winking smiley emoticon LOL.

Just remember these words when you come to ride a scooter.

Winter and the Holidays

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday Season. I've been in Ohio spending time with the family, and it's been great.
I'm bringing back two Honda Metros back with me. I sold two off back in October to get these two. Lower mileage and a great deal to boot, so I had to add them to the fleet.

8 Metros got new rear tires, and while those rears are off, it's easy to check all the brakes, and I was amazed to see the brake in really good shape. I thought for sure, with all the mountain use, it would be time to change them, but no.. they are good to go! One thing I will check this spring is the brake cables.
The Big Ruckus got some new fronts. Before the season starts in May, I'll get some rubber on the Vino too.

Here it is again.. Sept 30th, and I'm still open for business. I'll keep the scooters running until the bad weather days outnumber the good. I'm guessing a couple more weeks.

We had an incredibly wet summer.. which ended up being the damper for riders, and not so much the economy.

We had 8 "accidents" (all but 1 were lay downs due to gravel and very minor) 1 being a Big Ruckus by a guy who:

1.) Bragged about his motorcycle at home and the fact that he's ridden since in the womb.
2.) Laughed at other injury photos because "..how can they wreck like that? Scooters don't go very fast"
3.) Declined to wear a helmet because "I don't plan on wrecking it"

The guy laid the Ruckus down on a turn with a speed limit of 15mph! THAT'S HOW FAST YOU CAN BE GOING TO LAY A RUCKUS DOWN AND CAUSE $700+ worth of damage.

Look, a 250cc scooter is as fast as... a 250cc motorcycle.
No one PLANS on wrecking..
Remember bicycles? How fast do you go on one of those to get road rash? Not as fast as a scooter!
You previous experience on motorcycles, and your bragging of it not only does not impress me, but makes me more leery to rent to you than a complete novice.

Of the 8 "accidents" this year, only 2 were by people who had ZERO experience on 2 wheeled motorized anything. 1 had ATV experience, and she laid the scooter down in the parking lot after hitting the gas for the first time, and made a bee line for the other parked scooters before falling over with in inches of another scooter.

But now for the good stuff!

Riders told me:
"Seriously, THIS is the funnest thing I've ever done!"
"This is the best thing in Estes Park to do."
"Touring Rocky Mountain National Park on a scooter is the ONLY way to go!"
"Had I known about the scooters when we first got here, we would have done this first!!"
"Next year, we are coming here first, and we are going out all day!"
"OMG! An hour is not enough... we'll be back tomorrow to rent all day!"
"Now I know why people love to ride motorcycles!"
"This was the funnest part of our vacation! We'll definitely be back next year!!"

It's THESE customers who keep me excited about doing this.
They are the ones who bring me the most joy, and make me realize that what I am doing is so very worth it.

And for all the riders who came out AGAIN... to the riders who have been coming to my shop each year since I opened... to the riders who tell me my scooters are now an annual part of their trip to Estes Park...

So, for the next couple weeks, I'll be cleaning the shop, getting the scooters ready for winter, and hopefully sending a few more folks out into the landscape of Estes Park on scooters to enjoy the thrill of it.

Corvette Club Estes Park Sept 2009

Time to head to work, so I got in the truck and got to the end of the driveway to see a line of Corvettes driving by.

Obviously a Vet Club was coming up thru Glen Haven to Estes, and I got in line behind them.

As I approached the switchbacks, the sun hit the vets just so, and they were all making the turns in a neat little line, so I started to take some photos.

Yes, photography while driving is a dangerous thing, so do not attempt it at home.. or in the car.

If anyone out there is in this club, or knows of the club that made this run, I have some decent shots of your line headed to Estes.. and I'd be happy to share them with y'all.

Beware of Drop Elk

A few weeks ago, I was up in Rocky Mountain National Park hiking around from Fern Lake to Cub Lake. I saw the strangest thing..

I swear to you, I saw an Elk in a tree. It was sort of snorting at me as I hiked by, and I'd guess it was about 50 yards away or so.. it was sort of high up there in a pine, and I can't figure out how it got there. There was also something hanging in the tree from a large branch. It almost looked like a cocoon, but very large. I'd say, about the length of the Elk itself.

After my hike was over, I asked a ranger about seeing an Elk in a tree, and he thought I was crazy. I even told him I'm local, as to not sound like a tourist..

So, yesterday while hanging out with friends around the fire, I brought up that Elk.

I was told by a guy who has lived in Estes since the late 50's that there is a type of Elk, called a Drop Elk. He went on to tell me that a Drop Elk is very dangerous... and it will fall out of a tree and onto it's prey, pretty much knocking it out with the the Elk's weight alone. Once the victim is out cold, the Drop Elk will eat it!!

I could not believe what I was hearing! He didn't know much else about it, and has never seen one himself, but swears that once in awhile a story comes out about an encounter with a Drop Elk.

Just wish I had my camera with me.

STOP WRECKING MY SCOOTERS!

Owning a 1 million cc motorcycle does not impress me.

I don't care if you have been riding motorcycles all your life... it's not a scooter.

I'm beyond tired of hearing these motorcycle owners say how "dorky" or "gay" they will look driving a 50cc scooter...

I'm sorry if your penis can't handle riding a 50cc scooter.

But, if you are going to ride it... then pay attention to what I say. I have great information for you. Using your hips or body to steer really works.

Two Weeks: One Big Ruckus goes down. One Vino 125 goes down. 3 Metropolitians go down.
4 bikes in one week.

Guess what? 3 of the 4 had motorcycle licenses. 1 had riding experience, but no class M. That rider wanted a Big Ruckus, and was very upset he was being demasculinated to a Metropolitan.

This year, of the 8 riders who have dumped bikes.... only ONE was a novice.

An ATV'er hit the gas, and drove right into the other parked scooters.

A Day off for D and her scooters

One day, a couple friends of mine asked where I liked to camp. I told them about these great places in the Arapaho National Forest on the other side of the divide. Well, after some talking and coaxing, I decided it was due time for a day off, and I was going to go camping for 2 nights up in the Arapaho with my friends.
This area is some of the best "remote car camping" around, and it had been 2 years since I had been back up there. Could not wait to get to my favorite campsite.

When we arrived, I was shocked. All the Lodge Pole Pines that made for a lush campsite were all dead. I had heard that the beetle problem on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park was very bad, but I had no idea what that really meant.

Of course, coming over the divide, you see it. Estes side is green green green, and the Grand Lake side is dead dead dead.

All the Lodge Poles...Dead.

Anything green you see in this image are either the few Lodge Pole trees that aren't dead YET, or it's Aspen or another kind of pine that is not affected by the beetles.
I've been told that at this point, 70% of the trees or higher are indeed dead.

It's very sad to see this sort of mass death of a tree species.

And as far as you can see, you see dead trees. The frightening part about this is each one of those dead trees is a match stick ready to go off.

Of course, there is an upside to this: Aspens and other trees will have room to flourish. But, it will be a very long time before the Rocky Mountains look like a thriving forest again.

The Rocky Mountains, as many of us have known it for hundreds of years will never look the same.
And the fate of the west end of the divide is making it's way to the east side. Already dots of dead trees are appearing along Trail Ridge Road. I've been told by people involved in the forest service who say Estes has about 5 years before it looks like Grand Lake.

Another Word about CHINESE SCOOTERS

Once again, I've got to talk about Chinese Scooters. Ready? DO NOT BUY THEM! I can't tell you how much trouble these things are. Built shotty. No one wants to work on them. Takes 6-8 months to get parts for them. Batteries guaranteed for 2 weeks.

Here's what I've seen with my own eyes: Crank shafts needing welded at 1,000 miles. Odometers stop working at 15 miles. Electrical nightmares under 500 miles...etc.

A gentleman came to my shop last week looking for parts to his Chinese scooter. In his mind, all scooters are the same, which is a shame, because if he'd spent about $800 more than he did, he could have gotten a Japanese scooter that will last for YEARS.

Here's what he said...
Him: "Well, I've had zero problems with my scooter"
Me: "So why do you need parts?"
Him: "Well, the starter went out on it"
Me: "And that's a problem."
Him: "Oh no, we've had this scooter for 5 years now."
Me: "You mean you've driven it in the summers for 5 seasons"
Him: "Yes, we drive it to Safeway."
Me: "How many miles are on it?"
Him: "Oh, less than 1,000"
Me: "And you haven't had any more trouble than the starter?"
Him: "No.... except when I first got it, I tried to lock the steering column, but wires inside were too short by 3 inches. They pulled out, and I had to rewire the whole thing."
Me: "Oh yeah? So, less than 1,000 miles on it, and you've had to re-wire it, and change the starter?"
Him: "Yeah, but that's it."

How does re-wiring a scooter, and having to get a new starter for it constitute "NO PROBLEMS?"

Look, in the 4 seasons that I've been running my scooters... and most of them are way past 7,000 miles... I've only had to CHANGE OIL, REPLACE AIR FILTERS, AND CHANGE SPARK PLUGS. That's it.

A quality scooter will not give you problems. A quality scooter will last for years and years. Why does a used Honda Elite Scooter from the 80s sell for as much as a brand new Chinese Scooter???? COME ON! It's a HONDA! Hondas run forever!!

Friend in Austin, despite the warnings from myself and other scooterists, bought a cheap ROCKETA scooter. I was in Austin for 6 months over the winter, and he had that thing in the shop 5 times! 5 times in 6 months. Then, he just gave up and sold it. Every time the "group" would go for a ride, he had problems.

The savings of $600 - $800 dollars is not worth the hassles of these bikes.

Don't buy CHINESE SCOOTERS.

And if you do, please do not bring it to me to fix. I won't touch them.

We know their toys are painted with lead.
We know their baby formula is tainted.
We know they export toxic Dog food.
We know they export jewelry with lead in it. etc...

We know these products from China SUCK! Why get a scooter from the same place??

I'm inviting anyone on scooter to come hang out at my shop here in Estes for the 4th of July Fireworks Show. My shop happens to be a fantastic vantage point for the fireworks, and, since I'm almost at the end of town, it's a breeze to get outta here after it's all said and done.

Me, some friends and family will be hanging out from 6pm on, with the grill, coolers etc...

Bring anything you need to enjoy yourself, along with a scooter, and see you on the 4th!!

The weather is being far to moist for my tastes. Every weekend in May it has rained a lot. Memorial weekend was most frustrating because during the rainy spells, people were calling wanting to rent. Groups of 2, 4, 6, and 7 were trying to get in on a ride, but the rain just kept coming. Luckily, in between rain, hail, and lightning some riders decided to go for it. Not a total washout, but not like it would have been if the sun were out.

I thought the economy would be my crux, but for at least the month of May, it's Mother Nature.
One thing I have learned about my business is, if the sun is out, I am renting. And there will be plenty of sun in the coming months.

And then there is the economy. What does it mean for my little business in Estes? Will there be more "local" business. By local I mean from all neighboring states. Perhaps these people will head for the mountains in Colorado instead of coastal USA or even Europe.
What about the people who do come up? Will they opt out of getting the perfect wooden moose, and instead spend money on experiences like horse back riding or scooter cruising?

Time will tell I suppose.

Technically ZootScoot opened for business on May 1st, but the weather has just recently become agreeable enough to get the bikes tuned up and rolling again.

People have been stopping by to say HI, and wish me luck for the up coming season.

When I got to the shop this morning, a gift was sitting on the Vespa for me!! As soon as I saw the little white back with the smiley face stating "WELCOME BACK!" I knew instantly who had been here, and what was left behind.

I picked up the back, and took a quick peek, like the items inside would jump out at me or something. I giggled at what I saw.

Yeah, this is last year's photo of the Vespa Tribute Donut... I know. Those donuts are so good, I didn't even take photos of the "new" tribute donuts.

Year old donut photos... I know are not freash. BUT, I just couldn't help it. If only I had been to work a few hours earlier, it would have been hot, and glistening with surgary delight. Those crazy women at the Donut Haus are up before the crack of dawn to bring you the most mouth watering donuts around.

OK, back to being open. Apparently I am easily distracted.

So, over the last few days the bikes have been inspected, tweeked, and put through rigorous test drives to the lake and back.

We appear to be in good shape.

Lots of reservations have been made for every weekend from now until the 2nd week of July, so that's a good thing... with a large reservation tomorrow.

What figures is the weather has shifted, and my riders might be a bit chilly. Luckily they are experienced riders, and should be properly prepared.

Time to get the scoots out!

New addition to the fleet! Yamaha Vino 125

I'm happy to get this scooter in the fleet. Yamaha's Vino 125cc 4 stroke scooter is the perfect step up from the Metropolitan, but not as powerful as the Big Ruckus.
If you have a motorcycle license, this is a great choice to ride along side the Metropolitans, ESPECIALLY if you are a taller person. My father is 6'3" and has been riding around on a Vino 125 for 3 years now.

Can't wait to take this for the maiden trip into Rocky Mountain National Park!
Come on warm weather!

Spring is in the AIR!! At least where I am...

My head is at the shop, getting ready for May already! Reservations are starting to trickle in thru the new online feature on the website, I've designed a new store front sign, the website works, and I'm planning in my head how Spring maintenance is going to flow.

This years spring maintenance is going to be a bit more laborious, as it's time to do valve adjustments, and take a good tire evaluation. When I left in the fall, I was replacing drive belts, and brake pads, so that will continue thru May.
Luckily, a helluva guy named Bill Bergstrom from the front range will be coming up to assist me. He's got a motorcycle lift for the Ruckus, and he's going to teach me to do the valve adjusts. He'll be my fresh eyes on the scooters!

Things I'm still working on: New Maps, more accurate info about the routes like times and features.

Things I'm thinking about: Offering a photography service. We'll take a group photo at a particular destination and the image can be purchased in postcard or greeting card formats.

All I know is I am ready to take a scooter up into the park again! Right now that would require tire chains... but, the vision is there.

2008 Comes to an end...

I was just sitting here, looking at the past season's blog, thinking about the year as a whole, and also contemplating what 2009 could bring.

Talks of adding more scooters to the fleet are in progress.
Wondering what the economy will do to my fragile little business.
Thinking about having a National Scooter Rally organized around Estes Park next fall.
And stewing over the fact that I can't make my little scooter zip across a web page yet via FLASH. (so much to learn...)

One thing I do want to say tho, is THANK YOU ESTES PARK! I can't tell you how many times I have been given a break on a meal, tabs on gasoline, not been charged a late fee for something, been helped by a local, or, have had other businesses and locals recommend my scooters.
Oh... you guys...*sniff sniff* you guys are the best!
There's nothing better to restore your faith in humanity, than to have a town, in general, support what you are doing.

..if only I could figure out how to live up there in the winter time... I'd just stay. One day... However, I should say that the job situation where I am isn't much better than up in Estes. Things are tough all over, as everyone knows.

In the past, if I handed out 2 or 3 resumes, I would get 2 or 3 call backs. In the last 2 months, I have handed out over 40 applications and resumes, and have gotten 3 call backs. I took all 3 jobs, and still didn't piece together full time hours.

And I will wade thru it until May, and hope that things won't be horrible this summer.

As usual, I will be optimistic, knowing that I am providing a super cool thing to the area, and people will be back!!

Some new features: THE ABILITY TO TAKE RESERVATIONS ON LINE!!!!!!!!!! Also, purchasing GIFT CERTIFICATES is an option (GIVE THE GIFT OF SCOOTING) , a page on information about riding in Rocky Mountain National Park, and this site is chock full of fotoz!
Over the next few months, I'll be fine tuning it with spell check, some flash animation, and maybe some addition info I may have forgotten about, but check it out now!

This is only my second attempt at building a site, and I submerged myself into the task of it. A whole week with a couple entire days devoted to the completion of it... really, I was obsessed with it.

This is a first for ZootScoot Scooter Rental LLC!! The weather has been fantastic for the last few weeks, so we are still open for business. Fall hours are: 11am-6pm. If you would like to go out earlier than that, make a reservation, and I'll be happy to accommodate.
I've had the chance to scoot around quite a bit, thanx to the off season great weather. Roads aren't so congested, and the fall colors are still doing their thing.

OLD FALL RIVER ROAD...my new favorite ride!

In the 3 years that I have been doing this, I have yet to have the chance to take a run up Old Fall River Road with a Big Ruckus. I was either too busy with the shop, taking visitors up in the truck, or the road was closed due to weather.
Well, yesterday was so darn lovely, I closed up shop at 2pm, and made the run. And what a run it was!

I started up from the 34 access into the park, because I knew there would be an Elk Show. More bugling bulls and harems in groups.
While parked, I overheard a ranger telling a visitor that since the Elk are protected in the park, some of the bulls are so large, and old...and aquire such large harems, that they get so busy "getting busy" that they forget to eat, and sometimes actually starve to death!
Now that's what I call action!

The speed limit up Old Fall River Road is only 15mph, so the trip up is very leisurely. The dirt road itself is fairly compact, making the Big Ruckus easy to handle on the way up.

Traffic was a bit high yesterday...and that's saying I saw about 40 other vehicles making their way on up, but I was taking my time, stopping often to take pictures of the Ruckus, and the views.

The most annoying thing to deal with, as far as traffic was concerned, was dust. So, after pulling over to take photos, I would just wait until the cars past, and the dust settled, and continue on my way.

I consider my self a semi-pro photographer, since I do sell images when I try, so this trip was not only for the ride, but for the chance to get some nice photos.

At one point, while sitting in the woods on a large rock chock full of lichen, I noticed my lens was a bit dusty. While tending to my lens, out of no where sprung past a heard of deer. I mean out of no where. So fast that I didn't even have time to lift the camera to shoot.
Hooves were hitting the larger rock that was the floor surrounding me, and they bounced by so close, I felt a draft.

Laughing at myself, for missing the opportunity, and also because I remembered that a bear could do the same thing... maybe not so bouncy, but one could easily approach my space without me noticing.

These were taken near on of the Fall River stops along the way up.

When the sun was not obscured by clouds, it was very warm. I brought enough gear for some COLD, but all I needed yesterday was a jacket, vest, long sleeves, long pants, and my helmet. But, it's better to have brought too much warm wear, and not need it, than to have brought to little and freeze my butt off once I got to the top. Wasn't sure if it was going to be super windy or what...

Some people have often asked me, "Do the Big Ruckus actually make it up there?" Yes, and quite nicely I might add. There were times where I would just pull over on a fairly steep incline to take a picture, engage the parking brake, snap the shot, and go.... and was thrilled that the power was there to just take off.
By the time you get the Ruckus to the top of Trail Ridge Road, they do about 35mph. That also happens to be the speed limit up there, so it turns out that the Big Ruckus is PERFECT for this trip!

The best thing of all is being able to pull over ANYWHERE! I've been up this road a bunch in my car, and I saw so very much more behind the handlebars of the Ruckus, and then, something would just catch my eye....hit the brakes, hop off, and snap shots.

Once I got to the visitor's center, I contemplated putting on a fleece under the jacket I had on, but the temp was boarder line cold, and I had not plans to photograph up top. It was going to be a fast trip down, so I didn't bother. I was still wearing gloves until I got to the Rainbow Curve stop.

After dropping down in elevations some more, I was totally comfortable the rest of the drive down.

Then, when I got into town, I was treated to one more Elk Show in front of Fun City and the Estes Park Brewery. It was a big bull with a small harem. The bull was in the oncoming lane, so I was very close when I took the last series of photos, and here he is...

I'm glad I played hookie for the last part of yesterday. It was a great sunny day, and the ride was amazing! Again.. it's now my favorite ride!

Thanx to Pastor Michael Burwell, Pastor Charles Mattingly, Pastor Josiah Dangers, Pastor James Adam Muse, Pastor Daniel Rolfe, and Pastor Steve Holt who rented with us yesterday! They are with the Mountain Springs Church out of Colorado Springs!
When they came back from the ride, they all said they had a fantastic time on the scooters, and a couple of them expressed that they would like to come up and do it again.

They had great weather, and a great experience, and I hope to see them all again next year when they come back up to Estes Park!

TRAIL RIDGE ROAD! Accessed by a Big Ruckus

Drive up Old Fall River Road in my truck.
Tomorrow, I plan to close up a bit early, and take the ride up there myself on a Ruckus. I have yet to take Old Fall River Road by Ruckus, and a few customers have done so this year.. and frankly, I'm jealous. But now I have the time to do so, and the foliage is calling my name.

Once again the Aspen leaves are turning gold, and shimmer in the wind like a big sequin gown.
The morning air is crisp, and you can see your breath disapate into the air.
The last couple seasons have brought on a more dreary end to the season here at ZootScoot, but this year is wonderful!! Lots of riders taking advantage of nature's fall show and catching it all behind the handle bars of scooters!!

If you are planning a trip up here, come get a scooter and take advantage of what some have been quoted saying, "You are right! This IS the best way to see Rocky Mountain National Park!"

The Elk rut. For those who do not know, it is the mating season. You can witness bulls fighting for the right to mate with the females. Bulls are bugling, grunting, and clashing horns.
Sometimes you can see the mighty bulls with enormous racks of horn with 6 or more points on them and a "harem" of females close by.
Some of the younger bulls come into the territory to put there dibs in on the females, and most time end up losing horns in the fight for the right to mate.
It's a marvelous and dramatic thing to witness!

Bears are also a buzz, doing their best to find more food to fatten up for the winter hybernation. I've seen a big bear in my own back yard in Glen Haven. I've been told by the size of this bear's scat (droppings) that he's to be around a 300lb guy. He's been wreaking HAVOC on the garbage bin that is shared by the surrounding dwellings.

So, this time of year, the Elk and Bear are more aggressive, so remember to keep your distance! Respect their space. Admire their beauty!

Bringing up a scooter from the lowlands???

A couple of visitors came up from California with a brand new Vespa and an Aprilla. I saw them cruise past the shop in the direction of downtown.
A while later, the Aprilla pulls in the lot, and the guy asks if there is a mechanic here who can help, and the new Vespa was broke down at the Safeway. Won't turn over, nothing... and even started to fail as his wife was riding it.
A day later, and after much thought, everyone came to the conclusion that the problem was this.
They left California with full tanks of gas from a much lower altitude, and after trailering the scoots up here, the pressure from the altitude climb forced gas to back up into places it shouldn't be. Vapor Lock? YES!
They've got the thing idling now, and everything should be fine. It was just a head scratcher at first being the thing is brand new.

So.. Anyone bringing scooters to high altitudes should open up that fuel tank a bit to allow for pressure to adjust. When you get here, close it up, and you'll be fine.

Here it is, July 12th, and things are going very well. Other than the Hog Pen incident, no one has dumped a bike, and that is a wonderful thing.
My customers have been great this year, and I have to say, it's been pretty cool meeting people from all over the world.
I've had riders from Japan, Australia, Germany, Africa, Brazil, Canada, and from all over the USA. People who fly planes, scale mountains, run huge companies, one guy who lives in the swamps of Louisiana, and a guy named Wan who drove a 50cc Little Ruckus from North Carolina to California and back. At least I think he's back!?

Question: "Where can we see some elk?"

Answer: "Two days ago, in my parking lot."

This time of year, the female elk have given birth, and the little ones are learning the ropes.
Two days ago, we had the usual random heard of females and young hanging out behind the shop, and then we had the Elk Parade across Big Thompson Ave.
I blogged last year about tourists obstructing the paths of these animals, so I won't do it again. Instead, I will post some photos of the a heard passing by this year, and the stranded young ones left behind because of tourist obstruction.

This little guy was reunited with it's ma about a half hour later. None of this is uncommon, however this little guy was wandering near 34, and could easily be hit by a car.
Granted, we do have an over population of these animals, but no one really wants to see them hit by cars.

A customer asked me a very good question the other day. "What do I do if one of these ground squirrels runs out in front of me?"

If I am riding a scooter, and one of these little guys runs out in front of me... well, lets just say I hope the he doesn't get under my tires.

I will not put my own well being at risk to avoid a ground squirrel. These guys dart out into the road, and zigzag all over the place. They stop on a dime and change directions so fast, that even if you tried to swerve out of ones way, it will probably dart in the direction you changed to.

In other words, don't put yourself in danger for this little guy. The odds of you actually running him over with the scooter's small tires VS. the squirrel's ability to change direction are pretty darn slim.

Stay the course! Just hang on to those handle bars and and yell "RUN LITTLE SQUIRREL! RUN!!!"

A few words about Chinese scooters

I am getting bombarded with questions about 49cc scooters, what to buy, and what to beware of. Chinese scooters are the thing to beware of. It's all hit or miss. Generally, if a scooter is offered brand new, delivered to your door for under $1200, stay clear of it.
Inferior batteries (some with a 2 week warranty), poorly machined carburetors and engines, substandard hoses, cheap tires, and hard to come by parts are only a few issues these bikes have.
I've gotten word that most dealerships who carry these bikes don't honor the warranties that come with them, and trying to deal with a Chinese manufacturer makes things even harder to deal with.
One of the locals here in Estes Park picked up a used Roketa scooter for $500. Brand new it was $950. The thing is a little over a year old, and we can't tell how many miles are on it because the speedometer broke a long time ago. As a matter of fact, it quit working at mile 15. This gentleman bought it for his wife as a birthday gift, and brought it to me to fix up a bit before he gave it to her.
I opened up the carburetor and was stunned to see all rough edges to the machine work, like a dog chewed on it. The needle jet inside was very cheaply made with some sort of plastic part on top of the needle that will surely deteriorate fast with the gasoline in there with it.
The hoses already had signs of deterioration, and the brakes were completely worn out. Now, let me say that Estes Park spans maybe a 5 mile radius, so it's not like this bike had a few thousand miles on it.
From my rental mileage, I would guess that this scooter MAYBE has 2,000. Far too few to be showing this sort of wear and malfunctioning.
Other brands like Tank, Roadrunner etc. have had mixed reviews. Mainly dealers giving good reviews, and customers giving bad.
Some customers have said that the scooter shows up in a crate, and they never get it started.
Some get them started, but with in 500 miles have repairs to contend with, and no source for parts or service.
My advice, pay the extra money for a Honda, Yamaha, Kymco, Derbi, etc... What you get are reliable brands, little maintenance, machine longevity, and something any mechanic can work on.

Some websites say, "Why pay twice as much...?" Because you want it to work the first time, and every time.

The gals over at the Donut Haus here in Estes Park came by today to present me with the Vespa tribute donut!

As you see, the sprinkles on the donut are the colors of my Vespa 150 Sprint that is for sale out here at the shop.
It is reported that the Vespa tribute donut is a great seller amongst the children!
My guess is that the orange and green sprinkles together make for a better tasting donut.

Stay out of the HOG PEN!

Sounds like a funny title for this blog post, but there are reasons. Today was a gorgeous day, and luckily, I had a family come rent a bunch of scooters from me.
The told me all about their business, The Hog Pen in Leakey, Texas. They are a BBQ family, and we chatted it up about how great Texas BBQ is. Very friendly people.
They all had rider's experience, as they kept telling me. So off they went... all 7 scooters.
Upon their return, I was inspecting the bikes loosely, as no one alerted me to an accident or spill, and then I was distracted with more southern charm.
They left the lot, and I went to the bikes to line them up properly.

Well guess what! One of them *name withheld* wrecked a scooter, and did not point it out to me.
They left the lot after saying things like "come see us in Tx." and "We'll set you up with great BBQ".

So there is the damaged scooter. Of course, thru the power of Credit Card Machines, and the legalities of my contracts, I went back and adjusted their account to reflect the damages.

Why do people lie?
It's frustrating beyond a financial and mechanical level.

You go thru life thinking people are generally honest, but in reality, most are shady and sneeky, and will try to get away with as much as they can.

So, if you are anywhere near Leakey, Texas... make sure to stop in at THE HOG PEN BBQ. Tell'em ZootScoot sent you, and then walk out. Maybe buy some BBQ somewhere else.
If they are willing to skimp out on their vacation rental, I wonder what they skimp on in the quality of their establishment.

It says on the koozy they gave me that "Bikers Welcome".
Well, the bikers who own the Hog Pen are not welcome back here.

Gummy gas for the start of the season

After getting all the scooters up and running, I realized that 3 of them were just acting poorly. Throttle seemed to stick, and they just weren't performing right.

Got into the carburetor with a simple couple sprays of Carb Cleaner, and now the things are running like tops again.

This season, when it's time to winterize and store the scoots, I'll just drain them all of gas, and save the trouble of this messing round with carbs.

Yippie for warmer weather!!

The last few weeks have been up and down for rentals. Memorial weekend started out OK, but then Mem Monday rained and rained all day.
And just as things seemed as tho the month would go out with a whimper, the last weekend rallied and we had a spectacular finish to May!!
May 31st was the 2nd best day ZootScoot has seen yet in terms of rentals, and that was just ever so shy of the best day which was 4th of July 2007.

What does this all mean? In theory, it seems like we could have a very busy summer.

Last year I opened to freezing rains and snow the first two weeks of May. This year.. very mild warm sunny weather for the most part.
Reservations are being made, and people are renting scooters!!

If you plan to go into Rocky Mountain National Park with your scooter, keep in mind that all the roads are covered with lots and lots of sand and gravel from winter yet.
The roads up there aren't clear of sand ever, but it's much better after Memorial Weekend. Best bet is to keep it slow when you think you should be flying!! Curves especially!

Keep it safe, slow, and ride well!

It's a though suddenly everyone is thinking about getting away in May. Since I have received many emails this week about May reservations, I'd like to bring up "attire" during this very unpredictable month.
It can snow, rain, sleet, be cold, be nice, be sunny... so everyone needs to be prepared for it all.

Once temps dip below 58F, it starts to get very cold on a scooter. Even around 60f, folks usually wished they had gloves with them.

Here's how you will get cold.

1. Fingers. They are just out front there, in the cold, clinging to those handlebar grips.

2. Ears (and face) My helmets don't really cover your ears, and your face is exposed.

3. Torso. It's the wind blocker.

And this brings me to the list. The list of things to wear to be warm on a scooter.
If you are generally an outdoorsy person, you probably have most of this anyhow.

(Of course, if you have regular motorcycle wear, that is pefect)

1.) Gortex or Windstopper everything: Gloves, Jacket and even pants are helpful.
2.) Ear coverage with out a metal band going over your head.
3.) Fleece.

Personally, I use: Fleece with a windstopper shell over that. Windstopper gloves. Ear Bags.

Anything to keep you warm is good. I've had riders show up with their own helmets, and in snow suits. :)

Also, keep in mind that the colder it gets, the worse the engines will perform. Once it gets below 55F, I will do my best to discourage from going out to ride, especially in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Scootin' Round and Round

After closing down the shop for the season, I decided to go on a scooter scouting mission. I was headed to Sedona, Arizona to see if that might be a suitable location for a 2nd ZootScoot! The area was beautiful, the climate perfect, and the tourist traffic optimal, but there just wasn't a good place to ride!
Coming into the canyons from Flag Staff was a fun ride, but the speed limit of 40mph was not limiting the cars from going 55mph and above. I felt ok on the scooter, but there is no way I could send non experienced riders out there.
Then I was pulled over by a police officer. My plate less scooter drew attention. Once she verified that Vino 49 did not require plates, I asked her were a good place to ride would be.
I took off on a 5 mile little loop which was great until I got to the back mile. It was unpaved, eroded and treacherous. Not good for myself as an experienced rider... out of the question for anyone else.
So, sad to say... Sedona is not longer a candidate.

The hunt will continue for another beautiful location for a future ZootScoot addition.

An End to a Season

Sunday, Sept. 23rd is the last day that ZootScoot will be open for the season. It's been a great summer... few accidents than last year, and more riders to boot! I've learned a lot about people, local politics, and the habits of Rocky Mountain Elk.

I'll be back next spring to teach more and more people how to ride scooters! I'll post more here over the winter, but that will be far and few between.

FALL IS COMING

Beautiful fall foliage is right around the corner! If you thought taking a scooter out to see the colors would be a good idea, you are right.
One of my favorite routes is to the Fern Lake Trailhead. It's unpaved, however the dirt is so packed, your only danger is getting dusty.

Directions to Fern Lake: Enter the park via 36, and take your first left once you pass thru the gates. Bear Lake Road takes you to Moraine Park, and hang a right as if you were going to the campsites.
A sign for Fern Lake Trailhead directs you to turn left, and once you get down in the valley, you'll follow a river all the way back to a set of restrooms. Hang another left there.

This will take you down a lane of Aspens so beautiful. Even if you don't catch the color change, that ride is one of my favorites.

Of course once you are back there, enjoy a nice hike along the river to at least The Pool!

This time of year is also a good time to start bringing along warmer clothes on the ride. Some even feel light gloves make the ride more comfortable.

Also, with kids back in school, and the passing of Labor Day, there will be a lot less traffic in town, making your ride even more enjoyable!!

Happy Scooterist Tip #1 RIDE EARLY

RIDE EARLY! Why? 1.) To beat the traffic. 2.) To beat the weather: It "usually" starts to cloud up around noon, and rains between 1 and 4. (It's now 2.38, and it's coming down) Rain can last 3 min or a half hour. It's rare for it to rain all day, but... we have had a "rainy" July this year. 3.) Take advantage of my all day rate! $60 for the day rate, and I'm open for 10 hours!! Keep it all day, and you can get an hourly rate as low as $6.00 per hour.

Elk and Traffic

Just wait a minute and let them pass. Are you in such a hurry that you have to rush past these beast and split up families?

2 hours ago, a large heard of female elk and their young crossed the road in front of the shop. On lookers and anxious traffic prevented one very young elk not to make it across with the heard. Then, a sea of cars proceeded to follow the heard back into the neighborhood pushing the heard from this youngster further and further apart.
10 minutes later, that young elk was still on my side of the street, and the heard was long gone into the properties beyond.
Now, 2 hours later, a female Elk has come back looking for her young. She's literally screaming back her behind my shop for the missing young.
Last I saw, the young elk was headed toward the marina down 34.

SWEET! As I type that last sentence, I now see the momma and little one headed across the street for the heard.

I realize these guys are experts at finding one another, but traffic on 34 is hairy. Lets not make it harder.

(I just don't want to have to go out there and drag a dead baby elk off the road.)

Busy Busy Town... FULL!

Things are now at a peak. This is the heart of tourist season. Weekends are bumper to bumper traffic and people hustling and bustling everywhere.

I recommend that if you want to ride in Rocky Mountain National Park, that you do it during the week, as early in the morning as possible. If you have to get into the park on weekends, after 11pm, the I recommend only those with some 2 wheeled experience and a high confidence level go for it.
Reason being is that it's just so crowded, and there are few turn offs to let traffic pass. Sharp switchbacks, steep inclines, and the challenge of driving with all the other sight seers in cars just make the route to be deemed DIFFICULT on weekends.
This will probably hold true until Labor Day Weekend.

There is one ZootScoot Route that has a very low traffic rate MAP and that is route #2. It takes about 25 minutes to get around the thing, and some people even just turn around and take the same way back which brings the ride darn close to an hour.

You can always call to talk about your riding abilities, so we can help find a route that is appropriate for your skill level.

What's up with people?

To day was a great day. Sun was shining, people visiting, scooters renting... It was all fine until someone drove up to the shop with one of my Big Ruckus in the back of his pickup.
First, I must say this matter is being dealt with, and there are abosolutely no problems.

Family takes out a bunch of scooters including 2 Big Ruckus. Rider without a motorcycle license decides to take one of the BR for a spin. Why not? He's ridden motorcycles all his life. This is no big deal.
Well, he went into the park, was sightseeing, didn't pay attention to the switch back he was on and went over the side.

Not listed on the contract, and no motorcycle endorsement.

Again, this matter is being taken care of in a very positive way. Let's just say, there is a $3,000 deposit on the the damage for this scooter. A new Big Ruckus costs $5,5oo.

Oh, and the guy who wrecked... broken ribs. Hospital visit.

Just because you think you can, doesn't mean you should.

When I get back to Austin, Texas in October, I will be meeting with the owner of the Alamo Drafthouse (Austin's premiere movie theater) to plan an event with the Rolling Road show. http://www.originalalamo.com/RRS/index.html I've attended many a Road Show, and it's a blast.
The general plan is there will be a scooter meet (somewhere) with rally, ride, and then an outdoor viewing of the movie Quadrophenia. I'm picturing everyone sitting on scooters as they view the movie.
This event should be dated for late March/early April, but we'll see.

It's a very exciting thing for me, ever since I went to my first Rolling Road Show event. I went on the Deliverance Canoe Trip. Spent the afternoon paddling a river in Texas, to the site where there was a pig roast, beer, and a strange cutout... you know the type... where you put your head thru the hole and someone takes a photo of you with your head appearing to be "someone else". Well, this photo op was with the guy who played Ned Beatty's molester in the movie. He was on hand for autographs and photo op.
So, you put your head in the hole which gives you the appearance of Ned Beatty's charater being bent over... and of course, the guy who plays the molester puts his head in the hole that depicts.. the molester.

Renter has bad wreck in Rocky Mountain National Park

Of course, with all the good stuff that happens at ZootScoot Scooter Rental LLC, so does the bad. I got a call from a ranger in the park who reported that one of my scooters was involved in an accident, and it's at the bottom of a 40ft ravine... and I would have to call a wrecker.
I immediately asked how the rider was, but the ranger did not know.
I hopped on a Big Ruckus and headed into the park. When I got to the gate, I asked the station ranger where the accident was. 1 mile west past Deer Ridge. That's Trail Ridge Road! The Metropolitan Scooters are not aloud past Deer Ridge. Trail Ridge Road is OFF LIMITS. Out of Bounds! You lose your $100 deposit if you are on Trail Ridge.
Upon arrival to the sight, I had no idea the condition of the rider. Looking down at the scooter, which was laying on a small boulder (or big ass rock) and it crossed my mind that this rider could be dead. I stepped down the slope which was very steep. A bit difficult because the soil was very loose and soft. Very thankful for this, as hopefully cusion the fall of the rider.
I looked at the helmet first. A good size gash along the side of the helmet... just above her ear on the left hand side. That would have been her skull with a gash in it.
Colorado state law does not demand the use of helmets, but my insurance company does, and I do. Locals in Estes do call me and report riders not wearing helmets. I will go out and find you, tell you to come back. RIDE OVER. Lose your deposit, and you will not be doing business with ZootScoot Scooter Rental LLC ever again.
The scooter was in really bad shape, but oh well.
It was interesting to see how Bob's Towing was going to retrieve the wrecked scooter. I didn't stick around, to see it play out, but later in the parking lot, Bob said it was a winch and sling deal. Like fishing.

Later I found out that She was having tests done. XRay, MRI... Shoulder very banged up. Banged up in general.
Upon release they came by the shop before going on to the medical facility in Ft. Collins. I knew she was in a lot of pain, and she was soooo very sorry for wrecking my scooter... it was reported that she had over corrected coming thru a curve and went into on coming traffic. To avoid being hit by a car, she went over the 40ft ravine.

So, as of yesterday morning, it was reported to me that she is doing a bit better, her shoulder wasn't fractured or broke, and on the mend. Poor girl will be extremely sore for at least a week.

And to the credit to the couple!! Absolutely took full responsibility with in 48 hours. The scooter was deemed totaled, and I used the funds agreed upon to buy a scooter from somewhere south of Denver.

I know they have been thru a lot. It has consumed the last 3 days of my life.

No one else is permitted to wreck my scooters.

General tip: Be careful, take it slow. Most of the time you are cruising around full throttle just to get up the mountains. Give it a break and lay off the throttle going down the mountain.
Be alert. On rocky mountain high alert. There are surprises everywhere. Sand, Elk, Rocks, kids, tourists, marmot, cars, sharp turns and everything else.
Enjoy the ride.
Riding a scooter can be one of the best things you can do as an activity up here, but it can also change your life in a heart beat. There are other scooter rentals in the country that have had deaths. Death. Because you wanted to do something cool while visiting a cool place, you could die.
There was also a Raft company in Colorado this weekend that had a fatality.
All we can do is provide the tools and information to you, but the rest...

Estes locals and scooters

Since the shop opened in May, 7 locals of Estes Park have gotten scooters. I believe that makes about 20 scooters in town that aren't mine. It's an amazing thing, seeing scooters zooming back and forth in front of the shop...and they aren't mine!! Gas prices are getting folks in gear to find other ways to get around Estes. Why not, when everything in town is so close together. zootscootestes.com has some of the locals on their scoots in the fotoz area.
So happy to see the locals embracing the scooter way! YEAH ESTES!

If you live in Estes, and have been thinking of buying a scooter, give me a call if you have any questions about which ones to choose from. There are a lot out there!
Again, if you have a scooter with the engine size smaller than 50cc's, you don't have to have it plated, nor do you have to have a motorcycle license. Best of all, you can get up to 120mpg depending on the scooter you choose! Some electric scooters can go as far as 35 miles without a charge!

Wedding plans

This year I've noticed a lot of newly weds going out on scoots! I love it! I've sent all of them into the park, and all of them wished they had brought along picnic lunches. So remember, if you are on your honeymoon, and want something exciting to do.. rent a couple scooters, get a picnic packed up, and head for the National Park.

Scooters are starting to go out quicker, and the days around the 4th of July are booking out. If you are thinking of riding between the dates of July 2nd and July 9th, you may want to make reservations soon.

  To reward ourselves for a job well done, I decided we should take some Rucki up Trail Ridge Road.  I wanted to do that all last summer, but no one would go with me, or I was too busy.  
  Glad we did.  What a fun ride!!  Wish I would have brought a fleece with me once we got to the visitors center, but 90% of the ride was very comfortable!

ZootScoot is not for children.

Unfortunately, our scooters do not accomadate children in many ways. All we can offer is that if you have a motorcycle license, and decide to rent the Big Ruckus, your 12+ year old child can ride with you.
The Metropolitans are designed for one person only.

Estes Park has many horse stables in town, and do accomodate children! The Sombrero Ranch Stables are right down the street from ZootScoot, so perhaps some of your party can horse ride while others scooter!

A few folks from Estes Park have asked me to find/"buy" scooters on their behalf, and I can do this.
If you would like advice on which brands to buy, tips on how to find the right scooter for you, or someone to check on a scooter you are interested in buying, just give me a call and we'll talk about it.

Scooter buying tip #1. Stick to the popular and well established brands. With the increase in scooter use in the US, more cheap import "kit" scooters have come ashore. In most cases these scooters go thru a few hands before they get to you, and the warranty gets weaker in the process.
Some reputable brands are: Vespa, Peugeot, Aprilla, Piaggio, Derby, Kimco, Honda, Yamaha and so on.

Renting LATE in the season.

I've been getting a lot of questions about renting late in the season. (last week of September into the first week of October)
Keep in mind: The weather is very unpredictable at that time of year. It could be 70f and sunny, or there could be 3ft of snow on the ground. To be prepared for such a ride, bring waterproof everything!! Gloves, jacket, pants, shoes etc.. and bring warm things to wear under your waterproof gear. Once the temps get below 58f, it's not too fun to ride in a Tshirt and jeans.

Last season, ZootScoot closed in Mid September because of cold rainy weather. '

I advise that no one should plan to rent a scooter as a sole source of transportation at that time. If the weather stinks, I won't be open.

SPRING FEVER!

Today I could not help myself. It's sunny, and 65f, and the scooters were calling my name. I had to take one for a spin.
Took the Yamaha Vino out for a proper ride, and it was well worth it. This was the Vino's maiden voyage into Rocky Mountain National Park, and it has proved it's worth. What a fun ride! The Vino never went below 28mph going up the switchbacks thru the mountains. The Hondas usually drop to 18mph where the Vino was scooting along at 30! But, that's the difference between a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke engine.

Most of the remaining snow are in shady spots at this point. Under trees, and on shady sides of the mountains, but the high peaks are very dramatic with the white snow and then the exposed rock face. Magnificent!
6 more weeks until opening day. If I had possesion of the new scooter booth now, I would be open today, what with all the people in town, why not?

As long as you have a valid driver's license from any country, you may rent a 49cc scooter from us! We just need to know you are an experience driver where ever you are from!! Some states require a motorcycle license for 49cc's but Colorado does not.
If you want to rent a 250cc Scooter, you would need to aquire a international driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement.

NEW LOCATION!

New Location! ZootScoot is no longer located behind the Estes Park Brewery. We are now going to be located at 1360 Big Thompson Ave on 34. If you are coming up from Ft. Collins way, we are on the left after the Comfort Inn 1 mile before you hit the downtown intersection of 34/36.
This location will be a huge boost to ZootScoot's business. Easier to find, and easier to see, and smack dab right in the middle of a strip of hotels.

We'll be open May 1st!

First Season

ZootScoot's first season was full of suprises and lessons. It started with the joy of just riding around and exploring the area. Designing routes in Estes Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park was a great time.

Cruising Rocky Mountain National Park is a fantastic thing to do on a scooter! The sounds, smells, and vistas you see from the scooter are completely different from a car. Parking is a breeze at trailheads and parking lots. I can pull over on the road in small spaces that a car could never do. Oh, and when there is bumper to bumper traffic because someone is looking a elk, I can scoot right past them all.
What it comes down to is that no matter what road I take, there is something amazing to see, and it's just more fun on a scooter!

One thing not planned for was the sand and the trouble it brings. The sand is just the natural part of the terrain here, but it gets onto the roads after a rain, and it's all over the sides of the roads. I changed my orientaional talk several times to stress the danger of sand if someone stops too fast on it, or drives to fast on it.

The best thing over all about last summer is that many customers told us "this is the best thing for Estes" or "this is the funnest thing I've done all week".
ZootScoot is still here, we are opening for the 07 season in May, and we have a new location!

In the beginning

Back in August of 05, I was in Estes Park, Co with some friends for camping in Rocky Mountain National Park.
One afternoon we went into town to get supplies, and it was so busy. Bumper to bumper, cars running, circling for parking spaces. It doesn't take much to make Estes feel crowded, and I thought to myself that it would be great to have my scooter here.
I'd been living in Austin, Texas for 15 years at that point, and a Honda Metropolitan was my main source of transportation. $9 a month in gasoline was a lot better than the $150 I was paying out to drive a truck around town.

I mentioned to my friends the idea that I just had, to open a scooter rental in this town.

That same week in Estes, my friends and I went to the Estes Park Brewery, and as we pulled into the driveway I said outloud, "This is where the scooter rental should be." As we drove to the rear of the parking lot, I saw an empty building. "That's my scooter booth." We parked, and my friends went into the brewery, and I walked up to the empty building to check it out.
Inside the brewery I spoke with the owner, told him of my idea, and he gave me a contact number to the man who owns the property that the brewery and the empty building sits on.
We left Estes Park, and I had an idea in my head.
